INTRODUCTION
Operation Sword is a charity cycle ride from Nuneaton to Normandy (approx 350 miles). It will take place during the period 01 - 07 June 2011. The aim is to raise a minimum of £15000 to be shared between three charities. The Fusiliers Aid Society, The Fusiliers Memorial Trust and The Forces Children’s Trust. These charities look after injured soldiers and their families from past, present and no doubt future wars. The Memorial Trust hopes to build a fitting reminder at the National Memorial Arboretum and is supported by the families of the local lads that have lost their lives so tragically in the current conflict in Afghanistan.
WHY NORMANDY?
The Royal Warwickshire Regiment (an antecedent regiment of The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers) landed on Sword Beach during the D Day landings in 1944. Normandy Day 6th June is the anniversary of the start of the landings and it was also the Regimental Day of The Royal Warwickshire Regime
